OrganSEC, the first commercial volumetric bioprinting device in China developed by Professor Maobin Xie's team, launched

2024-08-26

On August 26th, the first Green Key Volumetric Printing Application Forum was held in PanYu Campus of Guangzhou Medical University. This conference is the first conference with the theme of " Volumetric printing technology applications" in China, which brings together the multidisciplinary direction of bioprinting, bioink, life science, regenerative medicine, and biomedical engineering to discuss the latest research and application progress in the field of bioprinting.

Principal Xingcun Zhao delivered a speech

In his speech, Principal Xingcun Zhao expressed his gratitude to many well-known experts and scholars, industry, enterprises and other people from all walks of life who gathered in Guangzhou Medical University for academic discussion. He pointed out that the university has always attached great importance to the transfer and transformation of scientific research achievements, and promoted it as an important task of "Double-First Class" construction, responded to the development needs of new fields and new tracks, and continuously improved the supply quality of scientific and technological achievements. Professor Maobin Xie's team from the School of Biomedical Engineering has developed innovative results of volumetric bioprinting equipment. This technology fills the gap in the field of volumetric bioprinting in China, greatly improves the printing efficiency and cell viability, and effectively improves the level of organoid based drug screening and clinical treatment, which is of great significance to the development of regenerative medicine and biomedical engineering and the improvement of people's health quality. It will have a positive impact on promoting the development of biomedical industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

OrganSEC is the first commercial volumetric bioprinting device in China, which uses a back projection algorithm based on holographic imaging projection technology and CT imaging principle. This technology can project two-dimensional slices of three-dimensional objects into a printing bottle rotating at a certain speed by a specific algorithm, so that the light-curing ink in the printing bottle can form three-dimensional objects in all directions at the same time. This technology solves the problems of slow printing speed and low cell viability of conventional layer-by-layer printing, and the technical indicators have reached the world's first class to fill the gap in China. OrganSEC will mainly target the organoid market, including organoid preparation, organoid based personalized medicine for cancer and organoid based drug screening, etc., and will provide accurate personalized medication guidance for cancer patients.

OrganSEC's advantages include:

(1)Ultra-fast printing: the cm-sized 3D (active) structure can be printed in 10-120 seconds.

(2)High cell viability: the cell survival rate after printing was >95%.

(3)High resolution printing: the printing resolution reached 50 microns.

(4)There was no contact between the printing system and the printed object, and no physical damage to the cells.

(5)The surface of the printed object was smooth, and the surface structure of the organ was realistically simulated.

(6)Sterile printing.

(7)The printing conditions are mild, and the visible light can be used to print at room temperature, which is more suitable for bioprinting.

Professor Maobin Xie introduced OrganSEC, the first commercial volumetric printing device in China

Haomiao software integrates the functions of control, calculation, parameter adjustment and so on. It has three special functions, such as printing model library, real-time online slicing and multi-file printing, which makes up for the blank of domestic volumetric printing control software.

Bioink is a material ink developed based on volumetric bioprinting, which is suitable for both volumetric printer and other light-curing printer. Professor Maobin Xie's team has developed six commercial bioprinting inks, including visualization GelMA bioink, visualization silk fibroin bioink, visualization silk sericin bioink, GelMA bioink, silk fibroin bioink and silk sericin bioink.
